Lloyds TSB Insurance: Claims up 150% as storms hit UK

Lloyds TSB Insurance reported a 150 per cent increase in the number of new claims it registered this morning, compared to a typical Monday.

Its customer call levels were up by 55 per cent, as people assessed the damage that last night's storms had caused to their property.

The bank recommends that anyone planning to make a claim over the next few days should check what damage their policy covers before they call.

It also suggests that people telephone their insurer as soon as possible and keep receipts for any temporary emergency repairs.

Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance, said he expected the high volume of calls to continue for the next 48 hours.

"So far all claims have been storm-related but, with today's spring tides, we're prepared for flood claims to come through as well," he added.

Earlier today, Direct Line Insurance urged people to ensure that they know how to turn off their electricity, water and gas in the event of a flood.
