Legal & General: Property still a 'worthwhile' investment

Rob Martin, a spokesman for the company, described property as "an excellent asset to include in any portfolio", citing its income-gathering capacity and low correlation with equities and bonds.
He noted that a number of investors have moved away from equities and bonds in property and said the total returns had been "excellent".
Mr Martin acknowledged that there was a "sharp correction in capital values" in the second half of 2007 and early 2008, but argued that this process has resulted in value appearing in the property market.
This has been demonstrated by the activity of 'opportunity funds', he said.
Mr Martin predicted that as 2008 progresses the "fundamental attractive of the asset class" will "reassert itself", causing institutional and overseas firms to increase their activity.
Earlier today Legal & General launched a limited-edition offer on its six-year capital guaranteed bond seven, with an increased level of FTSE 100 index participation.
