Abbey Insurance finds UK is a nation of worriers

New research from Abbey Insurance has found that Brits spend an average of over 25 hours a week worrying, with concerns about homes, possessions and money topping the list.

Recent talk of a looming recession and rising prices have added to people's stresses, which may be why Abbey has seen an increase in the number of customers taking out its mortgage repayment cover.

Those in London and the south-east are the most likely to be worriers, while Scots appear to be taking life in their stride.

Women are also more likely than men to be lying awake at night concerned about property or finances.

Lloyd Wilson, head of Abbey Insurance, said that for people to be worrying for more than 25 hours a week is unhealthy and advised them to "find ways to put their mind at rest".

One way to do that, he suggested, is to ensure that they are fully covered for any eventuality with the right insurance policies.

Abbey also released the results of a survey today which showed that the majority of the UK's business owners believe entrepreneurs must be willing to take major risks if they want to succeed.
