Nationwide Insurance: Protect against April showers

Nationwide Insurance is urging customers to take extra precautions ahead of the expected April showers.

Although spring has now technically sprung, April is renowned for its wet weather, which can play havoc with homes.

The building society emphasises that whether a home in owned or rented, the importance of having adequate insurance in place in the event of unforeseen damage cannot be overstated.

It has come up with a number of hints and tips to help households deal with flood water or storm damage, including informing their insurance company at the first possible instance.

The society also recommends carrying out minor emergency repair works that will prevent further damage and keeping all receipts.

Robin Bailey, insurance director at Nationwide, commented: "The recent spate of bad weather is a grim reminder of the devastation that extreme weather can cause and highlights the importance of having adequate home insurance cover."

A number of insurance companies reported a significant increase in the number of calls they received after storms hit the UK earlier this month.
