Halifax finds Buckinghamshire offers best quality of life

Buckinghamshire is currently the best place to live in the UK, according to the latest Quality of Life survey from Halifax.

It found that the county has the healthiest and some of the highest-paid residents in Britain, with the best life expectancy rates.

However, house prices there average £313,644, a premium of 7.4 per cent to the average house price in the south-east.

The majority of the counties that made it into the top ten for quality of life are located in the south-east, other than Suffolk and the Welsh county of Glamorgan, which is ranked 8th.

Buckinghamshire took the top spot for a variety of reasons, including larger-than-average houses, good GCSE results and more sunshine than any other county.

Martin Ellis, chief economist at Halifax, said that although the residents of the county enjoy a good quality of life on the whole, with house prices trading at a premium, "there is a price for reaping the benefits of living in Buckinghamshire".

Despite the better quality of life in the south-east, outward migration figures from the area to the north of England are at record highs, according to SmartNewHomes.co.uk.
