Abbey Insurance finds school breaks are costly

With many UK families anticipating the upcoming school break, Abbey Insurance has found that accidental damage could be an unintended result of children with too much time on their hands.

Abbey Insurance polled 522 adults with children and found that 73 per cent said they have had at least one household item or furniture damaged by a child during the past decade.

The average price tag for repairing or replacing these items was found to be £140.61.

Lloyd Wilson, head of Abbey Insurance, explained that school holidays can end up being "prime time for breakages".

"It's worth making sure your insurance policy covers every item in your home for accidental damage," he added, saying that repair bills can sometimes "come as a nasty shock".

Recently, Saga Insurance found that the majority of grandparents who look after children are not paid for their time.
