A spokesperson from Churchill explained that a number of influences may be taken into account by insurers, including which postcode the consumer lives in
"Postcodes are just one of many factors used when calculating an insurance premium," she commented.
Last year saw the greatest rise in motorcycle, moped and scooter registrations in the past seven years, according to figures from the Motorcycle Industry Association.
Although the Churchill spokeswoman acknowledged that a "definitive answer" to why motorcycle registrations are rising may be difficult to arrive at, she suggested that "it may be due to people commuting by bike rather than car" due to the London congestion charge.
The Motorcycle Industry Association's SMART guide claims that scooters reduce London journey times by an average of 48 per cent.
