Abbey launches trio of bonds

Abbey has announced the launch of three new bonds - a fixed-rate, 50-plus and children's savings bond.

The fixed-rate bond offers a rate of 5.3 per cent gross/AER for those saving under £50,000 for a one year term, 5.1 per cent for a two year term and 4.7 per cent for three years.

For those may be "looking for a regular income from their savings", the 50-plus bond offers guaranteed interest at 4.75 per cent gross for a three-year fixed-rate term.

The bank stated that the 50-plus bond "reflects Abbey's commitment to the over 50s market, complementing its instant access 50-plus saver account".

It announced last week that it was raising the rates on its 50-plus saver accounts for those who put away large sums of money, to 6.5 per cent.

Abbey has also introduced a new children's savings bond, which is available to under 18's and offers a guaranteed fixed rate of 4.75 per cent gross for a fixed term of four years.
