Nationwide: Detached house prices have seen slower growth

Nationwide has found that detached house prices have increased at a slower rate than other properties.

Its latest data shows that detached property prices have risen by 41 per cent over the last five years, compared to an increase of 50 per cent for other property types.

That indicates that average detached houses could provide better value-for-money, as it is twice as big as a typical terraced house.

Overall, detached houses currently account for 22 per cent of UK property sales, although in London that figure drops significantly.

According to the building society, the average price of a detached home is £246,516.

The most recent Halifax House Price Index suggested that prices fell by 2.5 per cent in March, taking the average price of a UK home to £191,556.
