HSBC launches capital protected products for emerging markets

HSBC has launched a new Capital Protected Plan and individual savings account (Isa), which are the bank's first investment products to offer exposure to the HSBC Global Emerging Markets Titans index.

Its index includes up to 50 of the biggest companies from the largest emerging market regions, including China, Russia, Brazil, India and Turkey.

The product features full capital protection, provided the investment is held for a six-year period.

At the end of that time, investors will receive a return equivalent to growth in that index, so if the index is up by 50 per cent, then investors will have their initial capital returned in full, plus 50 per cent growth.

Steve Conley, HSBC's head of investments, said: "By investing in the HSBC Capital Protected Funds, investors can enjoy the best of both worlds: upside benefits from growth in emerging markets, with the comfort that their capital is not at risk."

Earlier this month the bank launched a Capital Protected Plan and Capital Protected Isa with 106 per cent participation in any growth of the FTSE 100 Index at the end of the six-year capital protected period.
