Barclays survey reveals business map of Britain

Barclays has surveyed small businesses across the UK to find which type of business is most common in each area.

Its research revealed that the London borough of Kensington and Chelsea has the most estate agents in the country, with one for every 183 people, while Great Yarmouth has the least.

In terms of the trades the London boroughs of Kensington, Westminster and Camden have the least amount of plumbers and electricians in the UK, while Norwich is over-flowing with plumbers and Essex has all the electricians it could wish for.

For those looking for a drink, Gateshead, Swansea and Barnsley are the best bet, with more than double the national average amount of public houses.

John Davis, marketing director of Barclays Local Business, said: "Most of us have had experiences of trying to track down a plumber or electrician … however, what the report really shows is just how important small businesses are to the country as a whole."

In related news, NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland recently launched a business current account that is available to all customers, regardless of their credit standing.
