Halifax savings rate increased

Halifax has announced that it has increased its Web Saver Extra rate for all new and existing customers with balances of between £1 and £100,000.

The new rate now stands at 6.35 per cent gross per annum (6.07 per cent AER).

One withdrawal a year is allowed without loss of interest; after that, each subsequent withdrawal will lose 30 days' interest on the amount withdrawn.

Customers can manage their savings online and will have the variable interest rate paid to them annually.

Earlier this week Halifax Home Insurance revealed that one bike is stolen every 65 seconds in the UK, which is an increase of last year's average of one every 71 seconds.

Despite the high rate of theft and the fact that the average cost of replacing a stolen bike is £337, the bank's research found that few people report the incident to the police, making it more difficult for them to claim on their home insurance.
