NatWest: Mancunians splash the cash

People in Manchester are the biggest spenders in the UK, according to a new study from NatWest.

It found that households in the nothern city spend an average of £26,000 a year, nearly £2,000 more than in London.

However, despite their high spending rate, the number of Mancunians who save money is also above the national average at 53 per cent.

NatWest has conducted this research ahead of its MoneySense road show, which will be hosted in Manchester this uear.

Stephen Moir, a spokesperson for MoneySense, said: "While it's great to hear that Manchester's 'big spenders' are enjoying their money and lifestyle today, it's also important to think about how managing your money better today can mean more savings for tomorrow."

NatWest released the results of a study last week which suggested that increasing numbers of British employees are spending time working abroad.
