Alliance & Leicester Current Accounts: Young Brits crave fame

The most popular career aspiration for 16 to 21-year-old Britons is to be a famous musician, according to new research from Alliance & Leicester Current Accounts.

A survey of 1,077 youngsters found that many crave a role in the limelight, with careers in media, as a socialite and as a fashion designer coming second, third and fourth in the rankings.

The study also indicates that one-quarter of respondents believe they will be able to change professions during each stage of their life.

Senior current account manager at Alliance & Leicester Emma Walkley said that members of the younger generation are "career chameleons".

"A job for life does not appear to be an attractive proposition for the youth of today," she added.

Research by Abbey Banking recently found that one in ten children is now named after a famous person.
