Tesco Travel Insurance offers holiday tips

With the summer holiday season now upon us, Tesco Travel Insurance has come up with a number of hints and tips for avoiding some of the common pitfalls of travelling abroad.

It reveals that the top three claims made by its customers in 2007 were for baggage loss, medical treatment and cancellations.

As such, it suggests that one way for people to insure their claim for lost and stolen luggage is honoured is for them to report it to the relevant authorities immediately.

Also, if a time delay occurs, the insurer urges travellers to ensure they obtain written confirmation from the airline, train or ferry company, giving exact details of the reason for and length of the delay.

For those who need medical treatment abroad, Tesco suggests that if the problem appears to be serious, they should contact their insurer's emergency helpline immediately. If it is a more minor issue, travellers should pay the bill themselves and keep all the relevant documents to claim later.

In related news, Tesco reported recently that by not switching home insurance Britons lost out on £26 million last year.
