Legal & General: Welsh have more disposable income

People in Wales may have reason to feel rich, according to the results of a new survey.

Financial service provider Legal & General has discovered that those of Celtic origins are more likely to have money left to spend at the end of the month, compared to other regions in the UK.

Some 66 per cent of respondents from Wales said they have disposable income left from their payslip after deducting bills and other outgoings.

However, only 43 per cent of Londoners could say the same, a difference of 23 per cent.

These figures were comparable to a national average of 56 per cent.

Julia Clayworth, head of marketing for wealth management at Legal & General, said that the findings should encourage people to put more aside for a rainy day.

"In the current market everyone should be in the mood to save something towards their long-term goals. [The research shows people] now have no excuse not to make regular payments into their pensions and savings plans," she commented.

Legal & General is one of the UK's biggest financial services providers and is among Britain's top 50 companies in the FTSE 100 index.
