Abbey claims 86 per cent are combating credit crunch

People in the UK are taking steps in order to beat rising inflation, according to new research.

Abbey Mortgages has found that 86 per cent are tightening their belts against increasing costs, with 30 per cent planning to sell a possession to avoid the credit crunch.

In addition, the firm found that 12 per cent are considering taking a second job while three per cent could pawn an item.

Director of Abbey Mortgages Phil Cliff reported that people can beat the effects of the credit crunch with "careful financial planning and budgeting".

He said: "With over 80 per cent of Brits taking measures to save money and earn extra cash, it's clear that belts are tightening all across Britain."

This comes as the figures from Deloitte have shown that 66 per cent of financial analysts do not believe the worst of the credit crunch has passed, according to the Daily Mail.ADNFCR-323-ID-18683413-ADNFCR
