RBS and Natwest cut mortgage rates

Natwest and the Royal Bank of Scotland have announced cuts to rates on fixed and tracker mortgages.

Rates have been cut by up to 0.30 per cent, with the prices on most fixed and tracker deals lowered by at least 0.10 per cent.

Natwest has also launched a three-year step down, fee-free tracker mortgage.

It has a decreasing rate of interest across the three years and enables customers to switch to a fixed rate mortgage after three months if they desire.

Andy Fell, director of branch mortgages at the bank, said: "In these uncertain times we are committed to helping borrowers who are looking for either their first mortgage or a new competitive deal."

The average price of a home fell by 8.1 per cent in July according to Nationwide Building Society, Bloomberg reported.

A confidence index based on a survey of 2,001 people also fell five points to minus 39 – the lowest since the survey started in 1974.
