Abbey: Britons banking with one provider for simplicity

Nearly one in five Britons have consolidated all their financial products with one provider to keep it more simple, according to new research from Abbey.

This is equivalent to 8.7 million people who have been put off using several providers through the need to use different websites and call centres.

A further 18 per cent, or 8.3 million people, would consider bringing everything together under one provider to make their finances less complicated.

The average Briton uses three separate financial providers at any one time and needs to have at least three different passwords and PINs, the survey found.

Steve Shore, director of banking at Abbey, warned people with one password for all their accounts to make it as secure as possible, using letters and numbers.

Abbey has also cut its mortgage rates on some of its two and three-year fixed-rate and tracker deals by up to 0.10 per cent.

It has also introduced a range of low fee mortgage deals for people wanting to borrow £150,000 or less.
