Newcastle, Skipton and Cheshire building societies improve mortgage offers

New mortgage products are being offered by Newcastle Building Society and Skipton Building Society, while Cheshire Building Society has slashed its rates.

Newcastle Building Society has launched a range of mortgage products, both with and without fees.

Fees cost £598, while the new offers include 14 fixed-rate deals, four discount tracker rates and two offset-only products.

Skipton Building Society has launched new five-year fixed-rate deals, Stepping Up and Stepping Down.

The former begins with a low rate that increases annually and is recommended for borrowers who cannot yet afford standard rates but know their income will increase over the coming years.

Stepping Down follows a reversed pattern and would suit people who are currently financially strong but expect their income to lower, such as people entering retirement.

Meanwhile, Cheshire Building Society has cut rates on its fixed-rate deals.

Its ten-year fixed-rate mortgage has also been slashed by 0.30 per cent.

James Taylor of Cheshire Building Society said the rate cuts would provide "real value to our members and new borrowers".
