Trading Standards Institute: Buy tickets with credit

People buying tickets online should use credit rather than debit cards for greater protection, the Trading Standards Institute has said.

Spokesperson Tony Northcott said that in the event of a scam, money probably would not be refunded onto a debit card.

But he said that if the false ticket was bought with a credit card, the cardholder could probably claim it back from the card company.

He warned against buying from ticket touts.

Customers can claim back losses on transactions between £100 and £30,000 under the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

Those who buy tickets with a credit card can claim the money back if tickets are not delivered.

Recently, many people worldwide were scammed by the bogus website beijingtickets.com, which pretended to be selling tickets for the Olympic Games.

Many people also lost money to SOS Ticketmaster, buying tickets for the V and Reading music festivals that they never received.
