New Abbey range 'great for remortgaging'

A new low-fee mortgage range has been introduced by Abbey.

The high street bank is set make the new mortgage products - which it claims are suitable for borrowers looking for a mortgage of up to £250,000 - available from September 1st.

Abbey's new products include a three-year fixed mortgage at 5.84 per cent, a two-year fixed mortgage at 5.79 per cent and a two-year tracker mortgage at 5.94 per cent.

Deals in the new range have a £499 fee.

According to Abbey head of mortgages Phil Cliff, the new products may be particularly suitable for people who are remortgaging.

"They will be great for people who have plenty of equity in their property and want a really competitive deal, whilst looking to keep remortgage costs to a minimum," he said.

Abbey reported earlier this week that some 12 per cent of people who hold a mortgage plan to make an overpayment within the next half year.

The bank stated that this research indicates paying off a mortgage is still a top priority for many people, despite the current economic climate.ADNFCR-323-ID-18754733-ADNFCR
