Sainsbury's: Insure your pet to prevent having to put it to sleep

According to Sainsbury's research, 1.6 million pet owners have had their dogs and cats put to sleep because they cannot afford the treatment.
In addition, 80 per cent of vets have had an uninsured pet owner decline treatment because they cannot meet the cost.
Sainsbury's said that vet fees are rising by 12 per cent a year due to advances in the field and that around 55 per cent of cats and dogs are not insured.
Neal Devine, pet insurance manager at Sainsbury's, said the findings were "frustrating" as good insurance would have enabled many owners to take the treatment without trouble.
Cats who were left outside a veterinary surgery in Bolton are credit crunch victims, the head nurse believes.
Cheryl Eaton of Regan's told the Bolton News that the two adult cats and one kitten seemed to be well looked after but she suspected the owner could not afford to keep them.
She, too, stressed the need for insurance.
