AA introduces Breakdown Repair Cover

Members of the AA can now benefit from new protection against the costs of repairs after a breakdown.

Costs for the cover start at less than £6.50 a month and offer insurance for up to £500 a claim including VAT, parts and labour.

The excess is £25, with up to six claims a year permitted.

There are three levels of cover for cars and motorcycles, vans and driving school vehicles.

Mark Jackson, head of product development at the AA, said that a repair bill after a breakdown could be "devastating", especially in the current economic situation.

He said that the average cost of parts and labour to repair an alternator is £274.

Recent research by Confused.com found 24 million Britons admit to having dangerous driving habits.

A fifth frequently eat or drink while behind the wheel while 47 per cent often use just one hand to steer.

But 80 per cent say they would always stop and leave their details if they were involved in a collision.
