The Sunday Times reported the website's suggestions on how bargaining could help slash prices on anything from mobile phones to credit card providers.
Szu Ping Chan of money website Fool.co.uk said that people coming to the end of their mobile phone contract are in a strong position to save money.
The newspaper quoted a BT customer who wrote on moneysavingexpert.com that he negotiated a cheaper deal which included more features with his provider after threatening to switch to Virgin Media.
Steve Willey of Moneysupermarket.com also told the paper that credit card holders might be able to prevent a rate hike if they phone to protest.
Consumer group Which? recently criticised payment protection insurance (PPI) for credit cards, describing it as "modern day snake oil" and a "useless product, expensive and poorly designed".
Which? said that credit card PPI, intended to protect repayments in the case of loss of income, often covered only the minimum monthly repayment and could mean that the balance would never be repaid.
