Post Office may launch mobile phone service

The Post Office may launch a mobile phone service following the success of its broadband provision, it has been reported.

It is considering offering the service with the infrastructure of an existing network, according to the Guardian.

Head of telecommunications Martin Moran told the newspaper that a mobile phone service is in the "planning" stage but could be launched next year.

According to the paper, the Post Office's broadband provision has attracted in excess of 500,000 customers a year after it began.

Mr Moran said it is on track to reach its one million target by 2011.

Earlier this month, the Post Office launched a new cash ISA offering 6.25 per cent.

The ISA requires a minimum deposit of £1 and can also have funds transferred to it from any existing ISA.

Post Office director of savings Richard Norman said the product allowed customers to "save in a tax efficient way" while enjoying a "very competitive rate of return".
