Legal & General expands teleunderwriting

Legal & General has expanded its teleunderwriting service thanks to a new deal signed with Primecare.

Nurses and GPs from the latter organisation will follow up particular revelations made during application processes.

They will speak confidentially to applicants by phone about their medical history at a time convenient for the customer.

While Legal & General already speaks to hundreds of people each week about disclosures made on their applications, the new expansion will enable four more medical conditions to be covered by telephone, with more due to be added by the end of the year.

Legal & General said the discussions would be friendly and conversational, not following scripts.

Legal & General recently identified several key life stages at which insurance protection needed to be sought or reviewed.

These included marrying, starting or expanding a family, moving to a bigger house and approaching retirement.

Critical illness cover, income protection and life protection were all involved.
