The deal is available to all new customers who buy both buildings and contents cover together by the deadline.
Neil Laird, home insurance manager at Sainsbury's, said that home insurance policies vary widely and that customers need to compare both price and the level of cover.
Sainsbury's home insurance includes unlimited buildings cover and does not impose charges for paying by direct debit.
Accidental damage, including that caused by pets, is covered.
This week, research by Sainsbury's found that more than a third of homeowners do not realise they must tell their buildings insurer before they carry out a loft conversion.
According to its poll, a fifth of British homeowners intend to undertake major structural changes to their properties by May 2009.
While new rules that came into force this week allow loft conversions without having to seek planning permission, Sainsbury's stressed that insurers still need to be told in order to ensure a home is properly covered for its increased value.
