RSA: Businesses must address fraud concerns

Most people think sensitive personal data held by companies is not completely secure, new research has found.
The poll by insurance group RSA found that 90 per cent of those questioned think organisations such as banks, retailers and online auction sites are not entirely safe when it comes to personal information.
Nearly half (46 per cent) do not think banks and retailers do enough to protect such details.
RSA advised consumers to check how any data such as bank details would be used if they are asked to reveal it and to shred documents such as statements and bills.
It also said companies should ensure employees are aware of the risk of taking items such as laptops out of the office and check staff references before employing them.
Clear desk policies were also encouraged to prevent customer details being left available.
The news comes as National Identity Fraud Prevention Week gets underway.
Members of CIFAS, the UK's fraud prevention service, identified 65,043 fraud victims in 2007.
CIFAS also offered advice for security, such as checking credit references regularly and never giving out personal details to charity callers or researchers in the streets.
