AA: Drivers likely to keep fuel consumption low

Motorists who have been credit crunched into learning how to drive more economically may well keep to the habit, an AA spokesperson has said.
Although petrol prices are coming down, having fallen by nearly ten pence since their peak, the spokesperson predicted that other financial pressures will prompt people to keep consumption low.
"Every penny saved on car fuel can then go towards dealing with the rising price of gas and electricity," he explained.
Research by other organisations has already revealed the lengths to which some people are going to try to bring down the costs of running a car.
A poll by esure car insurance found that 48 per cent of British drivers are considering cutting down their number of cars to one per household.
Furthermore, 71 per cent are declining from buying a new car for money saving reasons.
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders' monthly car sales report, new car registrations fell by 21.2 per cent in September to 330,295 units.
The year-to-date volume was down by 7.5 per cent to 1,794,419 units.
