Which? names greenest cars for cost-cutting

The most fuel-efficient cars as found by consumer group Which? have been announced.

Fiat, Toyota and VW were named for manufacturing cars that boast a better fuel economy than 60 miles per gallon (mpg).

While diesel cars cost more, drivers can make substantial savings if they use the cars a lot, due to their greater efficiency.

The government is also reforming road tax next year to allow a saving for green drivers.

The Fiat Panda 1.3 Multijet, Toyota Yaris 1.4 D-4D and VW Polo BlueMotion 1 were all praised for their 60.1 mpg efficiency.

Another Fiat model also came in as the ninth most efficient, with the 500 1.3 Multijet achieving 56.5 mpg.

Which? claims its tests are stricter than official European Union inspections.

The top ten most efficient cars are all diesel.

According to the Guardian, sales of "high performance gas-guzzlers" are suffering the worst of all cars.

In August, Porsches and Land Rover sales dropped by almost 58 per cent and Chryslers by 66 per cent.
