MoneyExpert: Missed energy bills increasing

The finance comparison website discovered that in the last six months, the number of people failing to pay their electricity bill increased from 1.31 million to 1.96 million.
A similar increase was found in missed gas bills, which went from 1.16 million to 1.61 million in the same time period.
MoneyExpert said consumers with major suppliers have suffered from two price hikes since the start of the year.
As the cost of living rises, council tax bills are also being missed, rising from 2.18 million to 2.58 million.
Sean Gardner, director of MoneyExpert.com, said commentators are predicting a drop in wholesale energy prices in the coming months and expressed hopes that consumer prices would fall as quickly as they rose.
Meanwhile, finance website Fool.co.uk has found that despite increases in energy prices, 37 per cent of people say they will not endure coldness as a result.
David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk, advised looking to change provider and ensuring all available benefits are being claimed.
