New Egg bond launched

A new Egg bond has been launched, offering a rate of six per cent gross per annum.

Existing customers of Egg Savings can purchase the one-year, fixed-rate bond.

It is available for deposits between £1,000 and £2,000,000 and on applications and cleared funds received on or before November 27th 2008.

Dean Proctor, head of savings and investment at Egg, said that it was "a great opportunity for our customers to lock into a guaranteed fixed return on their savings for a full 12 months".

The new bond follows Egg's announcement of a new rate for holders of the internet-based Egg Savings Account.

Savers can earn as much as 6.55 per cent gross per annum on deposits of as little as £1.

This week, Baronworth (Investment Services) reported that guaranteed bond rates are dropping.

It said that most such rates fell over the last week, "some marginally and others fairly drastically".

But it added that higher rate taxpayers with £50,000 or more to invest will still get a better rate on such deals than the National Savings & Investments Guaranteed Income and Growth Bonds.
