Properties need 'very keen price' to sell

Homeowners trying to sell their properties need to offer "a very keen price", it has been claimed.

David Amstell, founder of online property website Briffy.com, said that prices are currently weak and houses are being sold "if they're at the right price".

He stressed that he was referring to selling, as the rental sector is very strong.

Mr Amstell explained that buyers are looking to make the most of the current situation and get a bargain.

Furthermore, he urged sellers to keep their properties physically attractive, as buyers would be dissuaded if it looks a mess.

According to figures released by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in September, the average house selling price was nine per cent less than the asking price.

The largest gaps were in the north (12.5 per cent), while London had an 8.5 per cent difference and the figure in Scotland was 2.4 per cent.
