Motorists have been warned off driving around to try to find the best deal on petrol and diesel.

Matt Sanger, spokesperson for What Car?, explained that getting in the car and driving around to try to find the cheapest fuel available would end up as "a bit of a false economy".

Instead, he suggested using websites to help find the cheapest options within a certain distance.

Furthermore, he said that a new service on the latest TomTom devies find the cheapest price of fuel nearby and helps to direct users there quickly and simply.

"Driving around and looking for the best price of fuel really is just a bit of a mug's game at the end of the day," he commented.

Recent research carried out online by Tickbox.net/Opinion Matters for TomTom found that 66 per cent of people are worried about rising petrol prices on a day-to-day basis.

Some 41 per cent would shop around for the cheapest petrol options.

In contrast, 37 per cent are concerned about terrorism on a day-to-day basis while 34 per cent have the same concern for the environment.
