M&S refunds foreign currency to Sterling Airways customers

Customers who bought foreign currency from Marks & Spencer (M&S) are being offered a refund after the collapse of Sterling Airways.

Hundreds of passengers were hit last week when the budget carrier stopped flights after it filed for bankruptcy.

The airline, which is based on Copenhagen, grounded all its planes registered in Denmark and left travellers stranded.

Flights were stopped from Gatwick Airport as well.

M&S told Sterling Airways customers who had used it to buy their foreign currency to take the unused money to any of its bureaux de change until close of business on Friday November 7th.

They will then receive a full exchange for the sterling they originally paid.

Customers must bring proof of the purchase from M&S and proof of having booked with Sterling Airways.

Internet and telephone customers can also claim the refund.

Fraser Millar, M&S Money head of travel services, expressed sympathy for those who had lost their holidays.

He said M&S is "hopefully taking away some of the inconvenience".
