Men less worried by credit crunch than women

Research published today by Moneywise.co.uk has revealed that men are less worried about the state of their finances during the credit crunch than women.

The study, conducted by Moneywise.co.uk, showed that only 25 per cent of men were worried about the overall state of their personal finances, compared to 43 per cent of women.

Although 65 per cent of both men and women said they had cut down on spending due to the credit crunch, less than one in seven men said they were spending a lot less, compared to one in three women.

Moneywise.co.uk's Rachel Lacey said: "Research has shown that women are increasingly more likely to have the final say on financial decisions within the household and are perhaps therefore more aware of the current rising cost of living."

Last week Maureen Hinton, lead retail analyst at Verdict Research, said that people would have to pay more for their Christmas shopping this year, thanks to inflation in the price of food and groceries.
