Alliance & Leicester: Christmas in the UK is hard to beat

Alliance & Leicester has conducted a survey of Brits living abroad which reveals that many of them would rather be spending Christmas with friends and family in the UK.

One in four expatriates surveyed said that they missed Christmas traditions like carol singers and roasted chestnuts, while 40 per cent said they missed spending the festive season with their families and 28 per cent said they missed Christmas with their friends.

Amazingly, the survey found that 41 per cent of British expatriates living in sunny Australia said that the third most-missed thing about Christmas in the UK was the weather.

Simon Ripton, joint managing director of Alliance & Leicester International, said: "Though many expats have no desire to return to the UK to live, they still carry on the traditions of their home country and miss certain aspects of Christmas."

Earlier this week a survey published by Abbey revealed that Brits were prepared to make significant financial sacrifices in order to ensure that they could enjoy their traditional Christmas meal.
