Pret A Manger to go contactless

Barclaycard has announced that another well-known high street retailer, Pret A Manger, has decided to embrace its contactless card technology.

Pret A Manger now joins Yo! Sushi, Coffee Republic and EAT on the list of food outlets that allow users to pay with their contactless Barclaycards.

Barclaycard claims that its contactless technology, which enables users to buy anything worth less than £10 by simply waving their card in front of a reader, can save users time.

Simon Hargraves, director of food and communications at Pret A Manger said: "Speed is incredibly important to us."

He added: "The new system has been received well so far and we have committed to rolling out contactless across our entire network of UK shops during 2009."

Customers can now use the contactless Barclaycard instead of their pre-pay Pret Cards to buy coffee or sandwiches in the morning.
