Lincoln: Pensioners having to work beyond retirement age

Lincoln Financial Group has released research today which shows that Brits will have to work past the normal retirement age in order to support themselves.

According to the study, over one-third of Brits have resigned themselves to the fact that they will have to work past the retirement age in order to fund the lifestyle they want.

In the over-55 age group, one in ten people say they will have to work full-time during retirement and nearly half say they will have to work part time.

Simon O'Connor, head of product and marketing at Lincoln Financial Group, said: "With over a third of retirees now either working full or part-time […] it has become even more apparent that effective planning for retirement is essential."

Prudential, a leading pensions provider, published a survey last month which showed that the credit crunch is causing many people to prioritise short-term savings and cut down on their pension contributions.
