Moneysupermarket.com issues warning to 'drivers in the dark'

Price comparison site moneysupermarket.com has issued a warning to drivers to take extra care as they longest night of the year approaches.

The winter solstice, which falls on the December 21st, could see an increase in the number of road-related deaths according to the website, as 41 per cent of fatal accidents occur in the dark.

According to moneysupermarket.com, the wintery weather conditions may compound the problem and motorists should consider taking out a car insurance policy which includes break-down cover.

Andy Leadbetter, managing director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said: "As nights grow colder and hours of darkness get longer there's no worse time to suffer from a vehicle breakdown.

"Driving during the festive period can be a nightmare; despite more hazardous road conditions many people will be embarking on a festive road-trip."

This latest warning comes after the AA cautioned motorists to be extra careful over the Christmas because of wet roads.
