AA issues warning to Christmas drivers

The AA has issued a warning to motorists driving to visit loved ones over Christmas to take care because of inclement weather.

Although the AA's figures revealed that the credit crunch may make the roads quieter than usual over the festive season, wet, wintery conditions could still make things dangerous for drivers.

Andy Taylor, AA Patrol of the Year 2008, said: "Punctures increase over the winter months when the roads are wet, as water and grime lubricate foreign objects making it easier for them to penetrate the tyres. Ensure that you pack essentials for an emergency."

Price comparison website Confused.com recently warned motorists to leave time to spare for travelling over Christmas as wet conditions could end up costing them more than time in the event of an accident.

The website warned that apart from the potential danger to motorists' lives, accidents could also cause insurance premiums to rise.
