MoneyExpert.com: Unemployment would leave many facing financial disaster

MoneyExpert.com has conducted research which shows that many Brits would be left in a disastrous financial situation within two months if they lost their jobs.

Around 30 per cent of adults said they would not have enough saved to be able to meet repayments on their mortgages, personal loans and credit cards for more than two months.

Half of these, around 15 per cent of adults, told MoneyExpert.com they could not last a month without employment.

Sean Gardner, Director of MoneyExpert.com, said: "Hoping for the best is not much of a financial strategy when the going gets tough and it is worrying that so many people are literally on the brink of financial meltdown if they were to lose their job."

He added that payment protection insurance could help people meet their financial commitments if they lost their job.

Recently, Zurich conducted research which suggested that single people are particularly at risk, as 92 per cent of them have no income protection cover.
