Norwich Union: Winter months 'are worst' for drivers

Norwich Union has revealed that the winter months are the worst for road accidents, as drivers struggle with the longer hours of darkness and the inclement winter weather.

According to the insurer, January is the worst month for road accidents, with claims for serious accidents costing around 25 per cent more than in the rest of the year.

Greg Gladwell, director of household claims at Norwich Union advised drivers to watch the roads very carefully over the winter as Norwich Union's data showed that December is the second worst month.

Mr Caldwell explained: "We have looked back at nearly ten years of claims data for this research and it is quite clear that there are particular dates and times of the year when certain events are more likely to happen."

Recently the AA issued a warning to drivers to be careful over the festive period as an increase in the numbers of people travelling combined with winter weather may lead to more emergency call outs.
