Lloyds TSB declares 'tackle your bills day'

Lloyds TSB has declared that December 30th should be a 'tackle your bills day', in an effort to encourage people to get their domestic finances sorted before the beginning of the new year.

According to the bank's estimates, switching energy suppliers could save a typical UK household nearly £500 a year.

Lloyds TSB also conducted research which showed that 80 per cent of people have seen their energy bills rise over the past year, with one in four househlds saying their bills have risen by more than £40 per month.

Steve Grainger, from LloydsTSBCompare.com, said: "A concerning 40 per cent of Brits said they don't know how they will cover their bills if prices continue to increase.

"December 30th is the perfect day for us all to concentrate on getting on top of our finances for the New Year."

Recent research by Gocompare.com suggested that sorting out personal finances will be the most widespread new year’s resolution for 2009.
