Moneysupermarket.com offers exchange advice for travellers

Price comparison website moneysupermarket.com has published advice for travellers heading for Europe this winter to help them avoid the worst pound to euro exchange rates.

According to the website, by exchanging money using a prepaid card, customers can avoid the poorest exchange rates which are often offered at airports.

With the pound slumping to near parity against the euro in recent weeks, moneysupermarket.com found that some airport currency exchanges, such as the TravelX at Heathrow Airport, are charging customers £1,000 for 1,000 euros.

Peter Harrison, travel money expert at moneysupermarket.com, said: "People need to plan ahead when it comes to their spending money. Having a prepaid card from FairFX or Caxton or a Nationwide debit card is usually your best bet for cash.

"Those prepaid cards or a credit card from Nationwide or the Post Office are an excellent idea for overseas purchases."

The current exchange rate is £1 to 1.09 euros.
