Car insurance crackdown takes 65 off the road

A total of 65 drivers in one part of the UK have had their vehicles seized in a three-month period.

Police in Hartlepool confiscated the vehicles from motorists who were driving on roads in the area without insurance or a driving licence, reports the Peterlee Mail.

In December, 22 motorists had their vehicles impounded after they were found to have no insurance. All of the drivers caught had driving licences.

The authorities say the campaign against the law-breaking drivers will continue until those concerned get the message that they cannot drive without insurance or the proper documentation.

In related news, a driver stopped in the Bolton area for using a mobile phone at the wheel was found to have no car insurance, reports the Bolton News.

The case against Samantha McLeod, 29, was proved in her absence at Bolton Magistrates Court.

As well as being convicted of using a mobile phone without driving, she was convicted of driving without insurance or MOT and failing to provide proper documentation.
