Legal & General launches new mortgage

Legal & General has announced the launch of a new mortgage package on to the market, in partnership with the mortgage-lender Astra.

The mortgage a fixed annual percentage rate (APR) interest at 4.5 per cent and costs £899 to set up. Customers who have a maximum loan-to-value (LTV) rate of 75 per cent will be able to borrow up to £500,000 with the new package.

Martyn Smith, head of mortgages at Legal & General, said: "The most competitive area of the market has been mortgages at 60 per cent LTV or lower recently so we are pleased to start opening up good deals to those borrowers with smaller deposits."

The head of induced mortgages at Astra Stewart Hunter said the offer was "attractive" following the recent falls in interest rates.

The Bank of England has cut its interest rates by three per cent over the last three months.
