AA Car Insurance praises government plans

AA Car Insurance is the latest industry voice to add to the chorus of approval for new government plans on how to deal with uninsured drivers.

The Department of Transport detailed this week a raft of new measures aimed at uncovering those without insurance and punishing them more strictly.

Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, welcomed the plans, stating that uninsured drivers add £30 to the cost of a car insurance policy annually.

Nevertheless, he added that the government needs to be careful in how it deals with motorists who are uninsured through no fault of their own - such as those who may have been hospitalised or away from home when their policies expired.

Meanwhile, the AA recently conducted a poll in which 80 per cent of drivers said they might have been over the drink driving limit when getting behind the wheel the morning after a night out.
