Saga Insurance: Insure your suitcase

Saga Insurance has reminded travellers of the importance of insuring all of their belongings when taking a winter break.

The travel insurance provider conducted a study whish revealed that the average value of goods taken on a winter holiday is £238 more than that of items in a summer suitcase.

Saga Insurance also found that nearly one in ten (eight per cent) of Brits jet off during the winter - each taking an average of £643 away with them.

Some insurers - including Saga Insurance - offer additional cover for winter breaks that covers equipment such as golf clubs or skis.

However, the firm warned that people should keep hold of receipts of goods they are taking if they are to stand the best chance of making a successful claim, should the worst occur.

Other research by Saga Insurance recently revealed that 61 per cent of Brits aged over 50 are likely to try new food when abroad - compared to 51 per cent of under-50s.
